Available Spring 2026 in 10” Decorative Pots for Just $35.00 at Chestatee Farms!
If you're craving the lush, tropical look of the islands, and wouldn’t mind growing your own ultra-sweet fruit, look no further than the White Jade Pineapple (Ananas comosus ‘White Jade’). Compact, striking, and delicious, White Jade is one of the most exciting tropical fruit plants you can grow in a container. Unlike the tough, acidic pineapples found in grocery stores, this special variety is prized for its low-acid, white flesh, its incredibly sweet flavor, and its home-gardener-friendly size.
At Chestatee Farms, we’re thrilled to offer this rare beauty in 10-inch decorative pots beginning Spring 2026 for just $35.00. Whether you’re looking to brighten a sunny window, start your own patio fruit garden, or impress guests with an exotic centerpiece, White Jade is ready to grow.
🍍 Origin and Background of White Jade Pineapple
The White Jade Pineapple originates from Hawaii, where it was selected and cultivated for its low acidity, soft edible core, and incredibly sweet flavor. It is a cultivar of Ananas comosus, a species native to South America (particularly present-day Paraguay and southern Brazil), but extensively bred in tropical regions around the world.
White Jade is not grown on a large commercial scale due to its soft skin and short shelf life, which make it difficult to ship and store. However, this very trait makes it perfect for local growing and backyard cultivation. The fruit is meant to be eaten fresh, right off the plant, and is known to be sweeter and more aromatic than supermarket pineapples.
While not mass-produced like the Dole and Del Monte varieties seen in stores, White Jade is cultivated in small tropical farms, particularly in Hawaii and specialty fruit orchards across the southern U.S., where it commands a premium in local markets and among fruit connoisseurs.

🌿 Why You’ll Love Growing White Jade at Home
If you’ve seen compact pineapple plants on patios, porches, or in sunrooms, and wondered if they really grow fruit, the answer is YES. The White Jade Pineapple thrives in containers, making it ideal for Southern gardeners who want a tropical touch with practical results.
Reaches only 2–2 1/2 feet tall and wide at maturity
Grows well in a 10" container
Adapts to indoor life in winter
Produces pups that can grow into new fruiting plants
Fruits are extra sweet, with an edible core and white, juicy flesh
Whether you want to decorate your poolside patio or surprise guests with a homegrown pineapple at brunch, this is the plant for you.
❌ Why Not to Use Grocery Store Pineapple Tops
Many people attempt to grow pineapples by planting the tops of store-bought fruit, but the results are often disappointing. Here’s why we only grow and sell rooted pups from healthy White Jade mother plants:
🐌 Slow Development – Store-bought tops may take 3 years or more to fruit, and fruits will always be ½ the size of the fruit it came from.
❓ Unpredictable Variety – You won’t know what you're growing or how it will taste.
💀 Rot Risk – Pineapple tops often rot before successfully rooting.
🦠 Possible Pests or Disease – Grocery fruit may carry bacteria or mold.
In contrast, pups are naturally produced by mature plants, already rooted, genetically stable, and far more vigorous. Every White Jade we sell is grown from pups, not tops, ensuring faster growth, more reliable fruiting, and stronger plants.
☀️ How to Grow White Jade Pineapple
📍 Planting & Potting
Our 10" decorative pots are perfect for this plant’s entire life cycle.
Use sandy, well-draining potting mix (cactus or bromeliad soil is ideal).
Place outdoors in warm weather (above 60°F), or indoors year-round.
☀️ Light
Needs 6–8 hours of sunlight daily.
Outdoors: Full sun preferred.
Indoors: Bright south or west-facing window or supplemental grow light.
💦 Watering
Allow top 1–2 inches of soil to dry before watering.
Water thoroughly but avoid soggy conditions.
Mist the central “cup” of leaves in dry environments.
Make sure the plant crown always has water in it.
🧪 Fertilizer
Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer (10-10-10 or 14-14-14) every 6 weeks from spring through fall. (Make sure you do not get fertilizer on the leaves or in the crown of the plant.)
During winter dormancy indoors, reduce or pause fertilizing.
❄️ Winter Care in Zone 7
White Jade is a true tropical plant and must be protected from frost. Luckily, it adapts very well to indoor life:
Bring indoors when nighttime temps drop below 45°F.
Place in the sunniest window you have.
Reduce watering and fertilizing during dormancy.
Move back outdoors in spring after the last frost.
With minimal care, your White Jade will stay healthy indoors all winter and burst into growth come spring.
🍍 When to Expect Fruit
Most plants fruit within 18 to 24 months, often faster in ideal conditions. The fruit emerges from a stunning red-to-pink flower spike in the center of the plant and matures over 4–6 months. The plants you purchase from us will already be 1 year old.
Each plant only fruits once, but then it produces “pups” (offsets) at its base. These pups can be removed and replanted, allowing the cycle to continue year after year.
🏝️ Ornamental Beauty + Edible Reward
White Jade is not just a fruiting plant; it’s a decorative centerpiece. With its symmetrical rosette of sword-like leaves and compact stature, it fits perfectly into:
Patio containers
Poolside plantings
Kitchen garden displays
Modern indoor plant arrangements
Tropical garden themes
Its spiky structure provides a striking contrast to softer plants, and the fruit itself is a conversation piece.
